Akari Energy Renewable Energy Systems

Homeowner's Association

How do I go about determining if my renewable energy system by Akari Energy is allowed by my homeowner's association?
Akari Energy will contact your homeowner's association for you to determine what the terms of your agreement are regarding renewable energy systems and other home improvements.  We will work with them and you to meet all of their requirements.

Insurance
How do I insure a renewable energy system?
Your Akari SolarPower System or Akari WindPower System is insurable under your property policy, unless there is a specific exclusion for this type of property.  You should consult your insurance agent to determine whether or not an endorsement to your policy is necessary.

Power Outage

In the event of a power outage, does my renewable energy system by Akari Energy continue to provide electricity?
Although solar panels still generate electricity whenever there is sunlight or a wind turbine when there is wind, the system will not provide electricity for your home in the event of a power outage without a battery back-up system.  For a grid-tied system without battery back-up, per National Electric Code (NEC), your renewable energy system must be automatically disconnected if the utility power is shut off.  The installed inverter automatically turns off the power and prevents solar or wind electricity from flowing back into the utility power lines.  This serves to protect the safety of maintenance crews from your utility provider working to restore your power.

If an optional battery back-up system is installed, then your renewable energy system will continue to provide any stored electricity to your home.

Evening Use
How does my Akari SolarPower System work in the evening?
Without sunlight, the system will not generate electricity and therefore will not provide power in the evening.  You can, however, install an optional battery back-up system that stores electricity from normal daylight production and that can be used in the evening.

Another option available in some states is a grid-tied arrangement known as "net-metering."  This is where excess electricity produced during the day will slow or turn your meter backward.

Maintenance
How do I maintain my Akari SolarPower System?
Maintaining your system is simple.  You can clean the panels with a water hose and wipe down any grime with a soft cloth or brush.  In addition, a mild detergent can also be used.  Solvents or abrasive and harsh chemicals are not necessary because they may damage the panels.  The underside of the solar panels and the connection points should not be cleaned.

Roof
What happens to my Akari SolarPower System if I need to replace my roof?
If the roof needs replacement, your Akari SolarPower System can be removed and re-installed for a fee.  We pre-inspect the roof and discuss any roof condition issues with you before installing an Akari SolarPower System.  We can also provide re-roofing services at a discounted rate (if you also purchase an Akari SolarPowerSystem) prior to installing your Akari SolarPower System.

Will drilling through my roof cause leaks?
If your roof is over 10 years old, your roof may already be experiencing micro-fissures in the material.  As the micro-fissures increase and grow in size, water may begin to leak through the material and soak through the deck.  Even if a leak is not visible, the moisture and humidity in the attic, soffit, and other hidden areas above your ceiling may develop dangerous mold and other harmful micro-organisms. Also, since your central air conditioning equipment is in the attic, mold and other harmful substances may permeate throughout the home and impact your living areas creating potential health issues.  In some cases, small unnoticeable leaks can suddenly grow into larger leaks, where water visibly penetrates the roof, attic, and ceiling potentially damaging the interior structure and personal items in your home.

Although many roofs have a manufacturer's limited 25 or 30 year warranty, in some parts of the country the roof life can be reduced to 10 - 15 years due to severe heat and weather conditions.  In Texas, for example, the common heat, hail, and windstorms considerably accelerate your roof's wear and tear.  If you notice loose shingles or discoloration, you may already have waterproofing issues.

When we install your Akari SolarPower System, we first ensure that your roof is in good condition, we then install the system with as few penetrations as possible, and finally seal to the highest quality and strictest methods.

We warrant that all roof penetrations made in connection with a project and the surrounding area within a 5 inch perimeter of each roof penetration shall be free from damage to roof and against water infiltration for a period of 5 years from project completion.

Weather
How will my Akari SolarPower System withstand Hail?
The solar panels Akari Energy installs are designed by the manufacturer to withstand a hailstorm.  Resistance varies by manufacturer and details will be provided prior to installation.

How will my Akari SolarPower System withstand high winds and hurricanes?
We design the Akari SolarPower System to resist high winds and the designed wind speeds are per American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7-05.  Values are nominal design 3-second gust wind speeds at 33 feet above ground for Exposure Category C.

Akari WindPower System

Weather
How will my Akari WindPower System withstand high winds and hurricanes?
Akari Energy provides a service to secure or properly stow wind susceptible parts and components in the early warning stages of a hurricane.  The cost of this service depends on your location and size of your Akari WindPower System.  We recommend this service because most wind turbines are not designed to withstand greater than 30 mph winds.
